What is a wheel?
- Wheels come in many different shapes and sizes. They are also often used to help achieve different goals. A wheel are not to be confused with a roller which does not use an axle. A wheel is a circular object that either spins around a fixed (does not spin) axle or is fixed to an axle which case the axle itself spins. This machine becomes more complicated when gears are included into a drive system. A wheel and axle moves loads from one place to another or in the case of a pulley they are used to lift loads up and down. A screw is also similar to a wheel, but it is often used to stop movement and hold a load in place.
